São Paulo, SP, January 16, 2023 – BP Bunge Bioenergia, one of the largest sugarcane processors in Brazil, won yet another important certification that confirms ethanol as a biofuel with lower emissions, allows it to be exported to California and also reinforces the company’s sustainable activities. The Moema, Ouroeste and Santa Juliana units have just received the CARB seal, from the California Air Resources Board, making it 4 out of 11 certified units, since the Tropical unit was certified a few months ago.

“California’s fuel market is very demanding and has strict environmental legislation. This certification is the recognition of an important work focused on sustainability that BP Bunge has been developing since its creation, 3 years ago. In addition, CARB opens up new business opportunities for us in a very relevant market”, explains Ricardo Carvalho, Commercial and Origination director at BP Bunge Bioenergia.

CARB (California Air Resources Board) is the government agency of California (USA) that defines rules for air pollution control. Within this context, the program has its own methodology for calculating the carbon intensity (CI) of the commercialized biofuel, that is, the emission of greenhouse gases per liter of fuel until its arrival in California.
